Project in 2024:

Predict the distribution of invasive species

The goal of the project is to develop a digital solution to monitor the distribution of an invasive species. The app needs to interface with available data, and clearly indicate the distribution and spreading of the species.

Possible projects are:

  • Water hyacinth mats on selected dams, reservoirs or lakes in South Africa.

  • Fire thorn in South Africa

  • Or solutions for invasive species in general

Technologies

For this project you will require basic knowledge of Innovative and Design Thinking, User Centered Design, IoT, Machine Learning, AI and Software Development.

In each modules you will get classes and projects to work on.

Apart from the small project, you will work on an overarching bigger project in which you implement the learned technologies.

Coaching

Coaching will be done by the stake holder, the South African Centre Biological Control (CBC), lecturers from PXL, Fontys, FH-OO, UdL and BC.

For the team coaching several online and physical meetings with the coaches will be planned.

Travelling

Travelling and experiencing other cultures are an important part of the minor.

This is not a touristic travel package, so you will need to book your flights and accomodation yourself, although tips and help are available.
